How to replace a window sash channel balance
How to identify a replacement channel balance
This series 390 channel balance also known as a block and tackle balance has a 26" long metal channel and is for a non tilt window. The channel's width measures 9/16" but is considered 1/2" in the trade. This balance comes fully assembled with a 15-001 shoe and a 19-002 top attached.
Stamp Option Sash Weight Range
2510 5 to 9 lb
2520 9 to 15 lb
2530 15 to 19 lb
2540 19 to 25 lb
2550 25 to 28 lb
*This information is based on 2 balances per sash. Balances are designed assuming friction in the jamb weather-strip will carry a portion of the sash weight. Suggested sash weights are approximate.
Good Idea!
Replacing both window balances at the same time prevents extra wear-and-tear to the new balance, which will have to work twice as hard when paired with an old balance.
