Replacent of spiral balancers

First, try to adjust the tension of the window spiral balance. If adjusting the spiral balance does not help the window sash stay up on its own, then it is time to replace the spiral balance. Remember, it is better to replace both spiral balances in each window at the same time.

My spiral balancers do not have any tension. I am going to assume that a good balancer should pull back in when disconnected?

You should be able to feel the tension after a few rotations of the spiral balance. If you do not feel this tension then yes, your balance has gone bad and needs to be replaced.

The spirasl balance and pivot dhoen are behind a plastic cover to hide them from view. How do you prperly remove this cover. If you yanked it out do you have replacements?

SWISCO does not sell replacement sash support covers. Removing these covers differ from manufacture to manufacture, but sometimes they easily pop out with a little force. Be careful not to break them as they are sometimes hard to find replacements for. The balance covers are not necessary they just hide the sash support balance.
