Is this a handle to open the window? what is the dimension of the section that the screw sits in?

Yes, this is a replacement handle to open a window.

Each installation hole measures 1/8" in diameter and the recess for the screw head measures 1/4" in diameter.

I noticed in the section for wooden windows there are brass looking handles would these be better?
