This is a relatively common occurrence in older windows and is easily fixed. Plus, it likely means you don't have to replace your balance, just the top sash guide. Now, all you have to do is determine what top sash guide you have. If you can confirm that your window is Kinco, it could be as simple as choosing between the 18-044 and 18-166. You will need to remove an undamaged top sash guide from the sash and carefully compare it to our hardware to ensure which is a better match.
