Caldwell 13 5 15 1/2" wide sash balance

A home owner from New Mexico says:
I'm guessing this is 14" Series 385 Channel Balance
Product Code: S385-14.
Stamped: 13 5 15 Caldwell

Actually does all this formed metal and plastic need to be replaced? I was told by a friend to replace the sash balance but actually all that seems wrong is that the cord broke on one side and is frayed on the other. Can new cords be threaded through?

Please advise.
Thank you,
JC

Thanks for posting, JC. I agree, this looks pretty similar to our S385-14 channel balance. You would replace the whole balance. It is not recommended to attempt replacing the string due to the high tension on the spring.
