Determining proper balance length

A home owner from Indian Beach says:
How do you determine the correct length of the balance you should order for a single hung window? My window or lower sash size is 32" L x 27.5" W. The balance is one that I have not seen before. It consist of a long spring with a Gray tube that runs up the center of the spring and a string that attaches to the top of window frame. I believe the spring attaches to the bottom of the lower sash. Have a lot of balances to replace. Need help to determine what size balance to use. Thanks for any king of help.

The easiest way is to just measure the balance you have installed now. Based on your description, it sounds like one of our block and tackle rod type balances. Do any of these look familiar? If so, click on the one that best matches yours to see how we determine length.
