Tough to say without seeing the original, but look at our 82-223 mortise lock. This is the only mortise lock we carry in this style with a squared off face. Could this work for you?

No it was originally a round one and the local store had that same one that you were recommended.

Would the 82-223 not work in the current cutout? If you want to go back to the round one, you could consider our 82-218, but I'm not sure how well it will work if your door frame was altered.
