Like a 38-001 : Neutral Locking Handle, 2-3/8" but with a 1/2" space between catch and keep

A home owner from Lubbock says:
I purchased some 38-001 window latches. They nearly work but the gap created when the latch is closed is to tight to fit my windows. I new ones look like they are about 3/8 of an inch in gap. The old ones are have about a 1/2 inch gap. Any help?

This seems to be the only gap on this kind of steel casement window locking handle. Can you adjust the keeper to meet the locking handle? Or would it be possible to file the gap on the 38-001 to meet the 1/2" you need?
