Series 600 weight ranges

A home owner from Walnut Creek, CA says:
I cannot find anywhere on your site any load capacities for the various color tips on spiral balances. Assume it would be tabular with color and load range ? Load range would be based on use of pair of balances ?

Thanks for posting. You're right, the color tips for spiral balances determine its weight range, and its based on two balances per sash.

I see you have recently purchased an S600-24. In your specific case, a 24" Series 600 Balance with red tip will carry a window sash weight range of 7 through and including 29 pounds. Remember, this is based on two balances per sash. Balances are designed assuming friction in the jamb weather-strip will carry a portion of the sash weight. Suggested sash weights are approximate.

Unfortunately, we don't have a specific list for customers to view. There are many different types of spiral balances, all of varying lengths that can fit on varying weights for balances, such a chart would be hard to work out. The easiest way to determine the best color tip for your balance would be to refer to our Guide on Choosing the Best Spiral Balance Tip Color.
A quick learner from Toronto says:
What is the weight range for your blue tip tubes. I'm thinking of S600 23" tubes. My old ones were red tip but all failed prematurely so I need to go for stronger.

Paul from SWISCO responded:
For the S600-23, the blue tip has a weight range of 12 through 31 lbs.

This is based on two balances per sash. Balances are designed assuming friction in the jamb weather-strip will carry a portion of the sash weight. Suggested sash weights are approximate.
A quick learner from Toronto says:
Do you have something that will handle up to 35lbs, I can't see it in the website, only blue and red.

Paul from SWISCO responded:
You would need a black tip, which would have to be custom made. A black-tip Series 600 23" spiral balance can support a sash range of approximately 31 through 40 lbs.

This information is based on 2 balances per sash. Balances are designed assuming friction in the jamb weather-strip will carry a portion of the sash weight. Suggested sash weights are approximate.
