Replacing take-out clips

A home owner from Philadelphia says:
Hi,
I have replaced a few take-out clips but find it very difficult to remove the old ones. The new ones pop right in easily.
Can you give me any tips or is there a special tool that helps remove the old take-out clips?
Thank you

This clips aren't actually meant to come out, so the only way to remove them is by breaking them. You can use pliers to grab the top of the clip and then pull down and out.

Guess I did a good job to get this one out in pretty good shape. :)

I'm replacing all of them since they are 30+ years old and I've had a couple break in normal use, most likely from abuse by previous residents. The price is reasonable enough!
