Selecting proper window balance color tip

A home owner from Illinois says:
I need to replace window balances that appear to be 22" series 500 but do not have a color tip. Your color codes refer to general weights but how do they relate to an actual weight? My window weighs approximately 12 pounds. Thank you in advance for your guidance.

Casey from SWISCO responded:
Hi,
For the 22" Series 500 balance you could use a Red Tip or Blue Tip to accommodate a 12 pound sash. We recommend matching up to the original color tip if possible.

22" Series 500 balance weight ranges:

Red Tip will carry a window sash weight range of 6 through and including 19 pounds.

Blue Tip will carry a window sash weight range of 10 through and including 29 pounds.

This information is based on 2 balances per sash. Balances are designed assuming friction in the jamb weather-strip will carry a portion of the sash weight. Suggested sash weights are approximate.
