Shattered storm door latches

A handy person from Wisconsin says:
I bought this type of latch (40-042) last summer for 2 screen doors and both of them snapped--I need the narrow face plate because the wood door frame is only 17/8" wide.
Is there another latch that is similar, but made of more durable material? I have two springs on my doors (top and botom) and they pull the doors closed fast and hard and I am sure that is why the other latches did not hold up.

Which side broke? Was it the outside knob or the inside lever?

If it was the inside lever, I would to suggest to install a 20-010 pull handle to pull the door closed on the inside. That way you will not damage the inside handle.

If it was the outside handle, then you will have to replace the lock set. The lock set 40-042 we have is from Ultra Hardware. Maybe that one will hold up better in your case. Unfortunately most of the hardware today is imported from overseas.
