Tension Pressure

Installation of the 17-026 Bracket and adjustment of the balance is similar to what is shown in the following: The only difference for you is installing the brackets on the side of the sash, not underneath as shown in the instructional guide.

The 17-026, 32 Bracket can be used for both left and right sides of the sash. You are correct, the notches on the bottom are to hold the Series 400 Balance in tension.

Hello I have a question about the S32 bracket and the tension. From what I can tell there isn't a right and a left part, if you use the same part for either side of the window I believe the tabs at the bottom would be in opposite side (front or back) depending on whether you install the part on the right or left side of the window. Are the notches at the bottom intend to work against the tension holding the spiral in place using the tension??? Thank you.

Hi Donna, Sorry if I'm a little confused. Try to follow me here... if the tension is always caused by turning clockwise and then locking into the bracket wouldn't the notch be reversed if the same bracket is used. I'm having a problem having the spiral rod lock in to the right side, the rod slips out when the tension is released. Not sure if you can see the picture of the bracket above...but if this is on the right side of the window and you turn the rod clockwise when you release the rod the little metal pieces at the bottom of the rod moves left away from the notches, and the rod comes down. Possibly I'm doing something wrong. I really appreciate your help. Thank you. Debbie

Do you feel tension when you turn the spiral? SWISCO's American made balances gather strength clockwise. If you have balances from another company, they may be foreign made and turn counter clockwise. The brackets are non-handed and the bottom tab of the balance will just hook into the clip to keep it from unwinding. If you turn the spiral of the balance and it keeps spinning without building tension the balance needs to be replaced. Take care not to over-tension the spiral because the balance could burst.
