Window balance (right term?) for Viking vinyl windows

A quick learner from Oregon says:
Looking for info on whether it is feasible to replace the string on this part, or whether it must be replaced. Please note the bent holes on one end of the track. Is this part of where the spring was attached?
I'm looking for advice on the best approach to complete the repair and whether both sides should be replaced at this time. How do I find and purchase replacements, what is the cost, and where can I find directions for replacing the defective part?
Thanks,
Kelly

Hello! Yes, it would be best to replace both balances. You see, balances are sold individually, but it is a good idea to replace both window balances at the same time. Pairing a new balance with an old one would cause the new balance to wear out faster.

Your particular balance looks like an S395-27 (if the metal channel is 27"). The stamp you need might be 2650 (for a sash of 26 through 30 pounds). To find out, weigh the sash prior to ordering.
