Window counterbalance replacement

A home owner from Colorado Springs says:
I have a broken non-tilt vinyl window counterbalance. The cord broke.

markings are: 20 4 HN CALDWELL

1/2 (9/16) inch wide. 21 inches long on metal base, not including plastic end pieces.

Pictures attached.

I would appreciate it if you could ID a proper replacement.

Thanks!
Mark

Thanks for posting! Before I can offer an applicable replacement for this channel balance, I just need to know a bit more information about the bottom attachment. Please take a look at our 15-004 and 15-005 channel balance shoes, and note their depths. As you can see, they are 1-3/32" deep and 1" deep, respectively. Which one more closely matches your own bottom attachment?
A home owner from Colorado Springs says:
Tom,
Thanks for the reply.

Depth does seem over 1". Not sure if it's quite 1-3/32". To me looks like just under 1-1/16". I don't know which would be more appropriate.

Thanks for getting back to us, Mark. I think that 15-004 is the best choice, personally. In that case, I recommend that you look at our S385-21 channel balance. I'd also recommend the 2040 option, based on your stamp. Take a look at this information and see if you think it will work for you! Make sure to double check the weight of your sash as compared to the 2040's weight rating.
A quick learner from Seattle, WA says:
Hi there! I'm so glad I found your website as this thread has answered a lot of the questions I had. I'm replacing the channel balances as well, and want to make sure I choose the right weight option. I've removed the window from the sill and it weighs ~32lbs. I'm assuming I should get the 2040 option since there are two balances that will be splitting the weight and the 2040 is rated for 15-23 lbs. Is that correct, or am I misunderstanding something?

Also, the only difference between my channel balances and the ones shown above is that mine have "20 9 30# GO CALDWELL" stamped on them instead.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for contacting us! I'm glad our site is helpful to you. As for your balance, our weight ratings are calculated assuming both balances are carrying that weight. You do not split it in half.

It sounds like it will need to be custom made with a special strength spring. Your sash is heavier than usual. I would recommend a 2065 stamp, which can hold a sash weight of 30 through 34 pounds. Would this work for you?

If so, check out this Custom Channel Balance Request Form I've started for you based on your specifications and fill out the blank fields. One of our representatives will get back to you with a price quote and an item to add to your cart.
