Wool Pile Not Removable??

A handy person from Rockland County, NY says:
Hello...the wool pile in my aluminum tilt windows for my townhouse built in 1987 are pressed into the channels every few inches. Unfortunately, I don't believe there is a way to replace them. Is there anything that you can suggest?

I'm ready to order a bunch of replacement parts to begin my rebuilding process. I'm pretty much set on everything else that I need: spiral balances, tilt latches, pivot shoes and bars, bubble seal, etc...but I really wanted to change the ugly wool pile! My parts are waiting in the shopping cart until I receive a reply...

Regards,
Hovan

I've have seen some windows were the wool pile is stamped in the track like how you describe. I'm afraid there is no tried and true solution for this. You could try using a small flat blade screw driver or possible a utility knife to work the wool pile out, but there's no guarantee. I am sorry we cannot offer an easier solution for you.

Maybe I'll try to cut it out first and then I'll open the channel up using a Dremel and a really small circular cutting attachment. I'll provide some photos, if successful, to possibly assist others...

Sounds like a plan. Pictures would definitely help, if you're successful. Good luck and let us know how it goes!
