Broken part in Old Window Construction

A handy person from Flushing, NY says:
There is a part in the outer frame of one of my window constructions that is broken. I believe that it is the spiral balance for tilt windows. It is 23" long and 5/8ths" wide. I have attached images of what I believe may be the broken parts.

Hey Jan. Are you measuring that outer metal tube of the spiral balance? See the video below for reference. If so, I agree, its an S600-23 with a Red Tip.

You definitely need a new pivot shoe as well. The shoe is what the spiral rod connects to. There are many different types of pivot shoes, which you can view here. To know which you need, you will have to remove an undamaged one and tell us its width and thickness. Those are the key dimensions for a replacement. The video below shows how to remove and replace pivot shoes.
