Coil Balance Replacement

A home owner from Rosemead California says:

Both sides bottom window of double hung window. Coil Balance spring snapped. Removed one side and the only number I could see is " 7.5 " on spring. The rest was unreadable. I am sending a pic of unit I took off. I will call again on Monday. The closest i could find on your website is " S160 "

Hey Raul. If the coil spring is 1/2" thick and stamped 7.5, then I believe you indeed have an S160-7 7.5 pound spring. If the old pivot shoe and coil support are undamaged, you should be able to reuse them: otherwise, see our 15-111 and 15-150S. Also note, generally with window balances we recommend replacing the springs on both sides of the window at the same time. Otherwise, new springs tend to wear out faster when used in conjunction with older balances. Just something to keep in mind. Let me know if you have further questions.

A home owner from Rosemead California says:
coil spring is 1/2" thick. I will need both sides and would like to replace all three pieces. I noticed there is a rubber grommet on the top piece. Also I have 27 windows of which 16 are double hung windows. for now I need just the 1 set (left and right) for the bottom window. Don't know how long these coil springs are supposed to last, but I had these installed in 2006 by the Window Factory based in San Diego. Like to get these as soon as possible.

Thank You Bob,
Raul

Hey Raul. For that top bumper see the 15-148. As far as coil balance longevity, we generally find balances last roughly 10-15 years, so it's not surprising that wear and tear is catching up at this point. All these parts can be ordered directly through the online store. Simply add them to your cart, and then when you're ready, click "Checkout" in the top right corner. Just don't forget to set the quantities desired. As you go through these other windows, be sure to check to ensure it's the same balance system, and if the spring weight stamped on the coils differs at all. Let me know if you have further questions at any point!

A home owner from Rosemead California says:
Bob, are these parts interchangeable for the top and bottom window as well as left and right side of the same double hung window?

Bob from SWISCO responded:

Yes, these can work for the left or right hand side interchangeably. As for whether or not they can work for the top sash as well, in many cases it would without issue. However sometimes the top sash is a different size than the bottom sash, so I always recommend checking just to be safe. There is a fair chance you will need the same hardware, but with different weight springs.
