Do I need new spiral balence parts?

A quick learner from Lexington MA says:
My windows will not stay up. Do I only need to recharge the mechanism or should I replace the old ones? The windows are several years old.

Video was very informative.
Thank you.

I have some 18" and some 20 in 5/8" red mechanisms. right now I have no pictures. My question is should I replace them only because they are several years old and some are now failing to hold the bottom sash open? Is recharging rather than replacement all that is needed? Or will rechharging just postpone the need for getting replacements for a short time?

Paul from SWISCO responded:

We assume that you have tilt windows using Series 600 red tip balances. If so, you might only need to add tension to the spiral using the 75-006 charging tool. You might also want to add some 3 in 1 oil to the spirals to loosen them up. Eventually, a balance replacement will be needed, but you can head it off for a while. See our media guide on charging the balances:
