Need a mortise lock that will ork with the existing handle set.

A quick learner from Pittsburgh, PA says:
Good Morning,

My customer called and said that he went to Lowes and and purchased just the mortise lock body as a replacement for the original due to a not working (Broken spring). The old mortise lock body is no longer around to compare visually to see if they are the same.

The Mortise lock sits in another metal housing that is ten secured to the door.

The Thumb turn actuator on this replacement lock pictured in the photo seems to be in the wrong position as to when you put it together ther is no way for it to work.

It seems like he should have purchased new handle set while at Lowes to. We don't know for sure. Can you assist from the pictures.

Thanks,
Gary

Hello,

We'd be happy to help but we can't be sure of the correct replacement without seeing the original mortise lock. The assembly shown in your photo reminds me of the 82-218 or 82-223 at first glance but you would need to compare the specifications of both options to the door opening and installation holes.

You also mentioned that the mortise lock is attached to another housing, which could be a faceplate. If so, feel free to get back to us with photos of the mortise cutout in the door to determine if one of our mortise options with a faceplate might be a better option. Also, keep in mind that these locks have a 45-degree keyway that accepts the thumb latch from the internal handle.

If you need a new handle set as well for this repair, take a look and compare the 82-030 handle set with 3-15/16" installation holes to the original. Thank you!
