Hey there,

Thanks for reaching out! Before you replace the balances, you'll also need to replace the top sash guide. These are the plastic pieces typically installed at the top right and left corners of the sash. They prevent the balances from shooting up into the window channel and help to guide them in the window frame.

Since this is a PGT window, you may likely have the 18-015 PGT Top Sash Guide. To confirm if this is the right replacement, you'll need to remove an undamaged guide and carefully compare the dimensions below. If they are not the same, I'll need to see a photo of your existing guide.

To identify the right replacement for your balances, I'll need to see and undamaged one removed from the window. I am looking to see a photo of the top and bottom attachments on the balance. I'll also need to know the stamp from the metal channel.

There are few video tutorials below with instructions for repairing a jammed window, replacing a top sash, how to remove a non-tilt window channel balance, and how to identify the balances. Take a look at them for reference.
