Spring balances

A handy person from Gig Harbor Wa says:

I have two sets of these old windows. They had the old spring balances. I would like to replace them. Only the lower sash move. The sashes weigh 7lb. I measure the glass area at 23.5". Could you let me know what sizes I need to order

Thanks

Nita

These balances haven't been made in a long, long time, which I'm sure you've already guessed. The good news is that we find that our Series 500 spiral balance, along with our 17-012 bottom bracket (sold separately) work perfectly well as replacements. We've been using these to repair wood windows like yours for years.

As for size, I think 24" will work perfectly fine.
