Window Channel Balance for PGT 31 - 6 - IW - CMC - 11

A quick learner from Orlando, FL says:
1/22--Dear Sir or Madam,

One of our channel balances has come loose in a window we have on a sun room. We believe these might be high-wind resistant type windows or something. It is single hung and the numbers above in the Subject line are stamped on it.

First, after watching various videos these apparently don't come out the same way as others must as we don't have the take out clips except way up top near the header, and that one isn't working since the channel continues to stand on the side (left as you look at from the inside where the locks are).

Do you have this part, and can someone enlighten me on how to remove and replace this part? I can send a photo if you wish, but these numbers are the only ones I can find thus far. Thanks!

That's a little weird. Could you show us a few pictures of what you have? That would be a huge help. Thank you!
A quick learner from Orlando, FL says:
1/25--Paul, attached please find 4 pics as you requested, showing the window overall, the clips being only up top near the header, the side balance staying down at the bottom of the left side when the window is raised. Does this help provide what you need? Thanks, Alan Rowe

It looks like you have a damaged take out clip (16-002) that should be flush to the window channel, but is now bent. That's probably why you are unable to remove the balance. I see you also have a small piece of aluminum U-channel above the take out clip. This might also be preventing the sash to go all the way up. Remove that aluminum U-channel and see if that helps as well.
A home owner from Orlando, FL says:
Paul, I removed the U Clips up at the top and was able to wiggle the channel balance out at the bottom. I have enclosed some photos of it (sent an email also but not sure if you get those or not).

Do I need a new part? If so, do you have it? How do I put all this back together, because the current part won't stay inside the window channel. Thx, Alan Rowe

Paul from SWISCO responded:
Thank you! Yes, it looks like your window balance is broken. The cord should not be hanging from the channel like that. As for what matches, our Series 395 looks like it could be what you need. Carefully go over it and see what you think.
A quick learner from Orlando, FL says:
2/3--Paul, thanks. I have ordered your recommended part and hope it will work. I measured it several times and it measure 32" via the method shown on your site, though I have a few concerns due to the numbers on the existing broken balance (see pics attached previously) have the numbers shown as 31 - 6 - IW - CMC - 11. I'm hoping the 31 part of that number doesn't mean it's 31", but I measured it repeatedly.

Do you have a brief video or instructions you could shoot me to show me how to put all this back together? Thanks again, Alan

Tom from SWISCO responded:
Don't worry, the first part of the stamp is usually one number down from the actual length. I know it's a little confusing, but it's standard.

As for instructions, yes, we can definitely help! See the video below.
