Hello, I believe that you may have Weather Shield wood windows with aluminum jamb liners. You have a few different options to repair them. You can contact a Weather Shield dealer directly, remove the jamb liner and take it to the nearest millwork that may be able to supply replacements or you could try using our Series 500 non-tilt spiral balances. For the Series 500, we would need you to confirm the height and width of the visible glass in the window sash, as well as the overall width and height of the wood sash. Below are generic instructions for the Series 500. First, you would drop the balance behind the sash and screw it at the top of the jamb using a 33-016 screw. Then, raise the sash and have someone hold it up while you screw the 17-012 bracket under the sash to corral the spiral. Continue holding up the sash while you bring the spiral up to the bracket. Now, turn the spiral clockwise with the 75-005 charging tool, which normally requires three to four turns. Then lock the pegs at the end of the spiral to the 17-012 bracket. Follow the same process on the other side and test the sash. If it creeps down, give the spirals another turn. |
