replacing window casement hinges

A quick learner from USA says:
Attached are photos of our current window casement hinges. It's my understanding that the roto controllers are no longer available. What do you recommend to replace these with? Also is it possible to change these from side opening casements to an awning style with hinges at the top and a crank operator at the bottom?

Hello,

You are correct that the link arm for your old-style ROTO operator is no longer available. That part was discontinued by ROTO and we have not been able to source a suitable replacement for it. With that being said, we can still offer the 39-091 and 39-092 operator bases, along with the 39-224 handle.

We also do not recommend trying to modify the window to operate as an awning window. Although we do not carry exact replacements for your hinges, we do carry the 36-021HD four-bar hinge and 36-004-10 2-bar hinge. We can't guarantee that with option would work for your application but these would be our best options at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience.

A quick learner from USA says:
So do the current 10" and 24" hinges still require a link arm at connect the operator base to the hinge to control opening and closing of the window? If so, is that particular link arm still available?

Casey from SWISCO responded:

As we mentioned, unfortunately, the link arm used with the 39-091 and 39-092 was discontinued by Roto and is no longer available. Your best bet would be to see if you could reuse your original link arm with the replacement operator base.

A quick learner from USA says:
Now I'm curious...how do the current style of hinges work without an operator linkage?

Casey from SWISCO responded:

The hinges and operator are entirely different parts. The hinges connect the top and bottom of the sash to the window frame. The operator is independent of the hinge and is only used to push the sash out and pull it back in. Both parts are important to the overall function of the window but the hinges and operator do not interact with each other.
