spiral balance tension question

A quick learner says:
I have just received the spiral balances I ordered. Thank you. Can you tell me if I drive in only the tube portion at the top of the window jamb, without bothering the spiral component that falls naturally out the opposite end? Will there be tension once the balance is installed, or should I also be attaching something that connects to the spiral band (is there a spring attached to the band at the lower end and to the window jamb at the upper end)?

Good Morning,

You will need to add tension to your new spiral balance by using the 75-006 charging tool. Here is a guide on charging tilt-window balances. Also, see this similar discussion where I explain how to adjust new spiral balances.
