window balancer

A home owner from Bremerton WA says:
Sir, I have two small bathroom windows (Mill guard) that have broken balancers. The stamp on the balancer is 8 3 HL Caldwell. The balancers are block and tackle type and look like Your S380 or S385. The balancer is 9 in long. Also the window does not have a removal clip installed so installing the balancer will be very difficult. Any help you can give me will be appreciated.

We may be able to custom make your balance, but we will need you to confirm the Series. The difference is in the bottom shoe. You will have to measure yours to determine which one is best.

As for removing the balance without a take-out clip, you can drill a hole in the sash and install a screw temporarily. This should work the same way; the balance only needs to catch it. Once everything is all settled and reinstalled, you can just remove the screw.
