Keeper
A hardware device into which a locking latch engages for security. The receiving portion of a lock that interlocks with the lock arm. (See Strike)
Keeper Stile
The vertical section of the sash where the keeper is attached.
Keeper Rail
The horizontal section of the sash where the keeper is attached.
Keyways
The part of the lock mechanism where the key is inserted. Can be changed if needed for security reasons, or changed also if wanted for ease of use, where more than one lock is in existence, and you want all the locks to take the same key, keyed alike (KA). See Cylinder Lock
King Studs
The wall studs that run the entire length of the wall that trimmer studs attach to.
Kitchen Bay
A small bay window used above counter-height in kitchens -- allows for a wider view and an inside sill for herbs and flowers.
Knee Wall
The structure upon which patio room windows are installed. They can be existing or constructed of tempered glass or an insulated panel.
Knobs
Round part of door handle that you hold with your hand. This can be made of brass, porcelain, aluminum, glass or other products.
Knocked down (KD)
Unassembled window or door unit.
