Vapor barrier
A watertight material used to prevent the passage of moisture into or through floors, walls and ceilings.
Vent Area
In a fully opened door or window, the area of the opening that will allow passage of air in or out. Some building codes require a minimum vent area in a structure, which is usually a percentage of the floor area or the wall area.
Vent Lock
Latch mechanism on the interior face of the sash which retains the window in a partially open position for ventilation. Also referred to as Nite latch, or Night Locks.
Vent Unit
A window or door unit that opens or operates.
Vinyl
A plastic material used by some window manufacturers for cladding or entire window units. A shortened form for polyvinyl chloride or PVC.
