How to measure the length of the Series 400 spiral balance

Product Description

This is a Series 400 spiral balance for aluminum non-tilt windows. It moderates the operation of your window sash to allow the window to stay open when raised.

This balance has a 28" long metal tube. When determining the length only measure the metal tube.
The strength you need should be indicated as a color tip at the end of your old metal tube. If you do not see a color tip weigh your sash on a scale and refer to the chart below.
The metal tube measures 3/8" in diameter and houses an internal spiral rod with cross-piece.
Can work for either the left or right side of the window interchangeably.
Spiral window balances come fully lubricated and ready to be charged.

Color Tip	Sash Weight Range
Red	10 to 22 lbs
Green	14 to 26 lbs

*This information is based on 2 balances per sash. Balances are designed assuming friction in the jamb weather-strip will carry a portion of the sash weight. Suggested sash weights are approximate.

Good Idea!

Balances are sold individually, however, it is a good idea to replace both window balances at the same time. Pairing a new balance with an old one would cause the new balance to wear out faster.
