How To Adjust a Tilt-Window Spiral Balance

STEP 1
Tilt the window sash downward to expose the balance shoe. Using the 75-006 Charging Tool, grasp the bottom of the internal spiral and rotate slightly to the right. Simultaneously pull the internal spiral downward.


 

STEP 2
Slip the internal spiral away from the pivot lock shoe.


 

STEP 3
With the internal spiral disconnected from the pivot lock shoe, hold the end of the internal spiral rod about two inches away from the outer tube.


STEP 4:
Apply tension to both balances equally.

If the sash is drooping, add tension by rotating the internal spiral rod clockwise, no more than two full turns at a time. Equally rotate the other side. Reconnect the rod to the pivot lock shoe. Repeat the process if more tension is needed.

If the sash is pulling up, less tension is required. Turn the rod counter-clockwise one turn equally on both sides, then reconnect the rod. Repeat the process again, if needed.
