Alside Double-Hung Window Installed 1999 balance coil type of balance

Handy Person from Garden City, NY

Good morning,

My name is Gerry. I have Alside, vinyl, double-hung windows. They were install in 1999. The middle photo shows the aluminum cylinder in which the coil is housed. I think the top of the coil was anchored to the top of the cylinder by a plastic rivet. That plastic rivet is broken and the coil is no longer anchored.

The bottom part, (the shoe?)seems to be fine but without the coil to pull on it the window sash drops.

I would like to know if you have a replacement coil-cylinder? I am handy enough to install this mechanism.

Do you have this sort of replacement part? I cannot locate a part number. I suspect the cylinder-coil mechanism is a custom made item that is unique due to window-sash measurements.

The "shoe" is tight and the channel needs lubrication (gasoline?)

Thanks for your help.

Gerry

Thanks for posting! This balance is called a spiral balance, and we do sell these, yes. They're very common. What you have here is either our 3/8" diameter Series 900 or the 9/16" diameter Series 600. You'll have to measure the diameter of the outer metal tube to confirm the better replacement.

I also highly advise against using gasoline as a lubricant. In the case of your windows, a silicone spray would serve you better. You can pick this up at any local hardware store.
