Atrium lock stripped /won?t open

A quick learner from Las Vegas says:

My lock set handle is stripped and the deadbolt is in a locked position. I can not remove the handle to take apart the lock . At this point is my only option to saw thru the handle stem and take apart that way ?

Yes, you could be correct. I would start by removing it piece by piece trying not to damage the door. 

Is there some way you could "stick" a flat blade screw driver into the handle hole and try unlocking? If not you might have to cut and take it apart!
