Awning window crank

A home owner from Central Florida says:
The screw the handle attached to snapped off inside the casing.
Tried a Prime Line replacement part H3670. The 4 screws that go into the wall fit perfectly but the link arm is short.
I'm getting a measurement for the link arm of a little over 2 1/2 inches. (Duh. Get a different number each time!)
Would there be a way to crack open the casing, remove the broken off bit and just replace that?
I'm not in the Quick Learner category but I'll give it a shot.
Looking forward to your suggestions.
Carol

Looking at your operator I can see that your link arm is threaded at the end. Now, both our 39-017 and 39-061 awning window operators look a lot like yours, but the 39-061 only has one hole at the top of the housing. If the bottom holes match up to your bottom hole locations and the link arm matches yours, then you might be able to drill and extra hole at the top to help install it. That might be your best option. Look it over and see what you think.
