Balance Replacement

A home owner from Charlotte, NC says:
Trying to figure out if I need the 30 inch. Windows are 26.5 x 59. The top piece is black and the white at the bottom has broken. How hard to replace to the 860 Arrow Balance?

Thanks for your help

I recommend looking at our S860-28 black cap balance. Unfortunately, we only carry it with the 1" wide shoe. Yours might be 1-1/4" wide, which are not available anymore. Window manufacturers have been phasing out this style of balance for a while now and they're just not made anymore.

If you do have the wider shoe, you would have to take the shoes off the old balance and install them on the new one. This isn't the easiest thing to do, though. You may want a local professional to do it for you.

To install the balance, you must first remove the sash, twist the shoe in the window track, screw the top of the balance to the window track and then use a large flat screw driver to tilt the shoe slightly so that the metal point doesn't lock on the window track. After that just slide the shoe down about 12" and lock it in. Repeat this for the other side and install your sash.
