Balance identification

Home Owner from Dearborn, MI

I'm having someone repair by Mastic windows (mid 90s) and need an approx. 21" or less balance for one of them, as well as the balance shoe. I'm attaching a photo for reference. Also need a 21"-25" balance for another one.

Please let me know if these items are available.

Thank you.

Hello, Linda. These look like pretty standard tilt window spiral balances. With that in mind, you have two choices: either the 3/8" diameter Series 900 or the 9/16" diameter Series 600. You will have to measure the diameter of the outer tube to determine the best match.

Make sure to remove the balances ahead of time before you measure for both length and diameter. You're not going to be able to know what size you have as long as it's still in the window.

The same goes for the pivot shoe. In order to make a recommendation for that, I'll need you to remove one and tell me both the thickness and width. The width should be 1-1/4" but thickness could be just about anything.

Ok my installer said I need a 21" (or less) 3/8" balance for one of them, as well as the 5/8" pivot shoe. Also need a 21"-25" 3/8" balance for another one, as well as 5/8" pivot shoe.

Please let me know what I need to place the order. thank you so much for your help.

If your balances are all 3/8" in diameter then that would be our Series 900. We sell all lengths requested.

Your exact pivot shoe style is no longer made, and I am also not certain of its size. Would it be possible for you to remove it from the window and measure it for me? I need to know its exact width and thickness to make a recommendation. Seeing a photo of it removed would also be a huge help, as much of it is obscured by the window frame currently. I can then check to see if any of our modern styles can work as a replacement.

Thank you for the info. Do you happen to have any instructions on removing the pivot shoe?

As a matter of fact, we do! We have a few different videos that should help you during the removal process.
