Bottom hook broke off on channel balance

Quick Learner from CO

I'm sure one of these are the channel balance I need to replace. Top and bottom are exactly like what you show on this web site. The bottom hook broke off so I need to replace the channel balance. The issue is I don't know if I need a 26 or 27 inch length because the existing one is 26-1/2 long. I think either would work - it is for an out building so not super critical. The only stamp on the part is 26 3

I am very familiar with doing this type of work so will be no problem for me to replace once I have the correct part.

Please let me know which one I should order, thanks, Mike

Hello! If your balance is 26-1/2" long, then it has to be a custom order. Rounding up or down won't work, unfortunately; these sizes are just too specific and going to high or too low will just result in a non-functional balance.

In order to assist you, I would like photos of the original balance so I can determine what the Series is. I specifically need to see the top fitting, bottom fitting, stamp, and the metal hook at the end of the cord. Please also confirm that the length of the metal channel is precisely 26-1/2", and not something like, say, 26-5/8", which is another potential option. Finally, please let me know how many you needed altogether.

I'm very confident we can get you what you need, I just need a little more data to get started. Thanks!

Remeasured and you are correct - it is closer to 26-5/8 (see attached).

Also the part that came out was/is a tab that was in the window frame from the factory and there is no way to get it back in after it pulled out.

The only way I can see to fix it is to replace it with a balance that has a hook in it.

Will likely order 2 of them so they will match.

If you have any other ideas please let me know.

Thanks, Mike

I thought this might be the case. What you have here is an "extended-travel" type channel balance, named for its extra long cord. There are a bunch of other differences between this and more standard products, too, but that's an important one.

We can supply this, but it has to be a custom order. The only thing I'm not sure about at this stage is the metal clip at the end of the cord. There are actually a lot of different varieties of this clip, and none of them are interchangeable. The bad news is that yours is too broken to identify. Do you have an undamaged version I can see?

I think this is the same tab you mentioned in your response. These should just lift out of the slot. The video below will show you the proper way of removing a similar kind of channel balance.

Once I can confirm what clip this uses, I can email you a purchase link and price quote that will let you place an order on our site.

Attached are a couple pictures of the balance on the other side that is good with the hook still intact.
Hope this helps - if you need anything else let me know.
Thanks, Mike

Perfect, thank you! That's everything. I'll email you that purchase link now, which will allow you to add these custom balances to your cart.

One last thing to note: the metal clip on our balance will look a tiny bit different, but will still function the same. It's just a newer version of yours.
