Broken latch

A quick learner from Chesapeake VA says:
The latch piece will not pop out to catch the door. When we dissembled it we found the inside long screw which had somehow fallen out. We think we are missing a spring.

Start by looking at our 40-198 Mortise Lock. Carefully review the dimensions and let me know if this seems to match up.

Maybe I can help. To have the latch come out further to "flip" it around, you need to loosen up that screw at the back of the latch. That will give you the play you need to flip and then tighten the screw to keep the latch it the direction you need.
