Certainteed casement windows

Home Owner from Del Rio TX

These windows were installed in 1985. They still operate with help but it takes someone outside the window to help close the window as I turn the crank. Sweet 2-3 year old great grandson loved to turn the crank while the windows were locked!!! Don't know if I just need new handles or more replacement parts. I hope you can tell what I need. I have photos on my iPad but I don't know how to send them to you here. I can email or text them but I don't know how to include them today (I'm 80 yrs old and not very knowledgeable ?)

Thanks for reaching out to us. It sounds like the gear bore might be stripped out. If I'm right, then you will need all new operators. This is a pretty common failure point for anyone who has kids in the home, honestly. They just love turning those handles.

We will require photos in order to assist you further. Specifically, I'd like photos of the damage in question and as much of the operator you can show without obstruction.

You can email those photos to our customer service team at help@swisco.com. They will make sure that the pictures are then forwarded to me for my review. I'll continue to help you here on this page after that.

Oh yeah, those gears are stripped out. That corkscrew-shaped bore you see is machine-pressed at the factory and is not meant to come out at all. Once it's out, there's no repairing or replacing it. You will need an all new operator.

I'm very confident that we can help, but your photos here only show the base. I also need to see the arms, which physically push open and pull close the window. Once I see that I can make a recommendation from our inventory.
