Hi Rod, thanks for the reply. Yes, these custom balances are actually quite common. The reason they have to be custom made can be summed up with (3) reasons: The first reason is the unique length of the metal channel, which ends in a X-5/8" increment; our standard channel balances end in even lengths. Secondly, the cord with the metal clip at the end comes out of your balance's nylon shoe; in our standard balances, this cord comes out of the metal channel itself. Finally, the metal clip at the end of the cord is itself a unique design. All of this is critical when it comes to the compatibility of the balance with your window sash. 

Now, all these reasons aside, I've identified countless variations of these custom balances over the years, probably dozens every week. I can confidently say in this case that what we recommended is what you need and that the new balances should work for you. Do not hesitate if you have any other questions!
