Channel balances

Quick Learner from USA
I need to order 6 channel balances for a non-tilt window, 4 of one size and 2 of another size. The plastic pieces on the ends are the same for both sizes and here are the dimensions of each size:

L: 25 1/2"
W: 1/2"

L: 15 5/8"
W: 1/2"

The numbers on the longer channel balance reads 25 3 and then in smaller text, BSI R (check mark). The shorter balance reads 15 3, BSI 0N.

Thanks for reaching out to us. These balances are actually different in configuration, not just size. The longer balance is a rivetless assembly, specifically, so there will be a lot of different details between them. These will be subtle differences but they're still important and I will need your clarification on a few.

To start with, can you confirm the lengths of each metal channel? The shorter balance should be 15-5/8" long and the longer balance should be 25-7/8". We can't make these in any other size so if your initial measurements are accurate then we will not be able to help. Please triple check for me just to be safe.

Can you also show me a clearer picture of the metal hook at the end of the cord for each case? I can't quite make them out but they do appear to be a different style.

Finally, you said you needed 4 of one size and 2 of another, but you didn't specify which is which. Can you tell me exactly how many of each size you need?

Hello there. The longer balance is 25 1/2" and the shorter balance is 15 5/8". Is there a problem using a balance that's 25 7/8" when the current balance is slightly shorter?

I would need 4 of the larger balances and 2 of the shorter. If included 2 photos and the photo starting with 58B58 is the shorter balance. The hook that looks like a V is on the larger balance.

I'll look forward to hearing back from you and I appreciate your help.

I don't believe our longer balance will work for you, no. I know that it doesn't seem like a big difference but having a length that's even 1/4" off can render a balance totally incompatible. The major issue I can see you facing is that the balance will stick out of the bottom of the sash, making you unable to close it all the way.

You can still try it if you want, but it's my job to warn you. Custom made balances are non-refundable so you need to be aware of what you might be facing if you do end up buying it. I wish we could get the shorter version of these rivetless balances but it's just not possible at this time. Those 7/8" length increments are the only type we can provide.

The shorter balance, at least, won't be a problem at all. That's pretty normal for this design and we can supply it without issue. What I'll do now is email you a purchase link and price quote for 2 of the shorter balance. You can use that to add it to your cart, and then checkout as normal.

If you did want to pull the trigger on the longer balance, just let me know and I will email you a second purchase link for that, as well. It's ultimately up to you.

One last note: the metal clip on our shorter balance will be a little different from what you show here, but they still work the same way. Yours is just a slightly older version.

Hello there. Thanks for getting back to me on this and I appreciate your help. I'll get those other two balances ordered. I'm wondering, do you have any idea where I might go to get some custom balances? I know it's probably not fun recommending the competition but I can assure you Swisco is always my first stop for anything window related. Any idea which other companies might be able to help me?

I'm honestly not sure who might have these. According to our database, the 7/8" length is standard for this design and I don't think I've ever seen alternate lengths on the market. My suspicion is that these were altered on site during installation, or at least by the window manufacturer themselves for this particular window, but this is admittedly just a guess. My next stop, if I were you, would be to contact the original window manufacturer themselves to see if they can at least point you in the right direction.
