Quick Learner from Berlin, MD

I have a spring balance I haven't seen before. I'm a professional Home Improvement Contractor. I'm well experienced with windows. Enclosed is all the info I could find including picture of the item.

Classic Renovation MFG-ELL-1,Series 400/500, DH 410,411,421,431 MFG date 6/2002

The spiral length is 34 1/ 2" , outer spring is 32 1/ 2" with a red tip. If you have anymore question please let me know.

Many Thanks Jim

Thanks for reaching out to us. This looks like a pretty standard tilt window spiral balance. With that in mind you only have two options: either our 3/8" diameter Series 900 or our 9/16" diameter Series 600.

Please note that when measuring diameter, you only want to measure the outer tube, which is currently missing from your balance. It either broke off or just deteriorated away over the years. You don't want to measure the spring since that won't be accurate, but you could extrapolate from it.

The same goes for the length: this is determined strictly by the size of the outer tube, not the overall size of the balance.

There was no outer tube as you mentioned. I checked the other windows in the house and all are just the spring . No tubes. This is why I mentioned that I never came a crossed this before. The house is on the market. I'm looking for something that is going to work. I'm sure the house inspector will pick this up.

I've never heard of a spiral balance without an outer tube. To my knowledge that's not something that's made. It's more likely that these balances used the older nylon tubes, which tended to crumble and deteriorate due to sun exposure.

Either way, you aren't going to find a tube-less spiral balance anywhere. You will have to do your best to get the 3/8" or 9/16" variety to work in these windows. My suggestion is to measure the diameter of the spring under the assumption that you'll need something bigger, to accommodate a tube that was once there, and mentally adjust the size as needed.

Hello, Sorry I didn't respond sooner. My computer crashed and hasn't returned. I miced the spring and I'm sure two 9/16" will work just fine. The house is on the market and should sell shortly. What do we need to do to get two of these so we can close this out

Great! That would be our Series 600, then. All orders can be placed directly on our site at your convenience.
