Coil Balance ID

A home owner from Clayton, North Carolina says:
Hello, we own a home with 20 year old Simonton Vinyl Windows single hung and 2 piece on the windows that get sun most of the day have started breaking off. The windows are difficult to get open and closed. One of the pix included shows the piece with the 2 screws and the pull tab that is used to tilt the window in - these are the parts that are breaking. There are several pix with the bar code and info about the windows but we have nothing that tells us what these parts are called so that we can try to find replacement parts for about 20 windows. Can you help us determine what these 2 parts are called and if there is a way to get replacement parts for these? The windows themselves are in good condition so we are trying to avoid spending $10K or more on replacement windows. Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks for writing in. Looks like you're referring to your tilt latches, as well as your coil balance system. For your tilt latches, check out the 26-243 and 26-244 to start. I can't say for sure this is what you need, but go over all the dimensions from the various angles and see if this is what you need. For replacement and removal, see the video below.

The mechanism within the window track is a coil balance system. This enables you open and close the window at will. To identify what coil balance you need, we need to see the pivot shoe at the bottom of the window sash that the coil balances connect to, as the identity of the pivot shoe determines the identity of the coil balances. Show us the pivot shoe, and we'll be able to go from there. See the video below.
