Crank handle loose and falling out

A home owner from Stirling, NJ says:
The crank handle on my kitchen window keeps falling out, along with the black piece that holds it in. (See photo.) It is getting black dust all over the window sill. Do I need to replace the whole thing (both the handle and the portion attached to the window) or just the handle? (Or neither?)

Dave Sr. from SWISCO responded:
Thanks for contacting us. This is an older type of operator, but we can still help. I'm afraid you won't be able to replace just that black retainer ring. You could possibly use masking tape or glue to hold the handle in the operator, but otherwise you may want a new operator.

The thing is, this older style was changed up and there are a few viable options. In order to identify the best one, I would need to see a picture of yours out of the window. Let me know how you'd like to proceed.
