Hello! The biggest difference between the 26-079 and 26-188W is that the 26-188W is neutral, which means this singular piece can work on either the left or right hand side interchangeably. Meanwhile, the 26-079 is strictly a right handed latch; the left handed side requires use of the 26-078. Honestly, they're fairly interchangeable, given that they have the same dimensions, so really it's just a matter of personal preference.
As for whether either of these latches can work for your window, I can't really answer that as I don't know anything about your existing latch.
