Extended-Travel Channel Balance Quote

Quick Learner
Length is 25.5 inches. There are two different balances installed same window: one is 25-4, and the other is 25-9. Not sure about manufacturing. Guide's look different on balances. They are original. The sash weighs 26 lbs. Windows have various problems: hard to open/close, sash balance shot up track, or hook assembly bent. U Tube videos show ease of removal/replacement but the tension on balances is immense and the take out clips are made of plastic. Very, very hard to find. I have five windows in need of immediate repair.

Thanks for reaching out to us! We can definitely supply these balances, but they have to be a custom order due to their configuration. What you have here is known as an "extended travel" channel balance, named for its unique block and tackle system. That may be why you've had such a hard time finding them.

In addition to having the wrong stamps, your balances are also two different styles: while they are both extended travel balances, one is a "rivetless" version, meaning that the bottom fitting plugs into the channel instead of using a rivet to secure in place.

Whoever installed these balances must have been short on supplies or something. They just put any old thing in there, which is going to make our lives a little difficult. We have to figure out which one is the proper part for the job (if either!). No wonder you've been having trouble with this window.

Before we go any further, can you first confirm the length of the metal channel in each case? One of the biggest differences between the rivetless version and the riveted version is size. The rivetless should be 25-7/8" and the riveted should be 25-5/8". Please check that and get back to me.

Can you also tell me the height of the visible glass?

The calibration of the spring is going to vary based on which style you need, too. Let's cross that bridge first and then worry about what stamp option to go with.
