Florida balance

Quick Learner from Florida

Swisco, please find the attached pictures of my "channel balance" system. I still can't see if it has "shoes" or not, the measurements are 19" long and 1/2" wide, marked # is 1740. Old up/down non tilted sliding windows to be repaired. That's all I know. Looking forward to your opinion and I will need 4 replacement parts with top and shoes.

I'm talking to a Swisco rep but he won't help me because he doesn't see the shoes. But you're the experts. Why can't you tell me what I have?

Hello! I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble. The bad news is that I can't help you without seeing those shoes, either. I know it seems like a small detail, but you have to understand that there are about a hundred different configurations that all use different style shoes, and none of them are compatible. I can't just pick a recommendation out of a hat because odds are it won't work. Then you would have wasted your money and neither of us are going to be happy.

To reiterate, there is no way for me to know what you have without seeing it. In order to identify the channel balance, you must remove the whole thing from the window. There is no way to avoid that. It has to be done. I've been repairing windows like yours for over a decade and this is the common procedure.

Once you have it out, you can show me a clear picture of the bottom fitting and I promise I can narrow it down to one, maybe two options instead of a hundred.

If you accept that I am the expert, then I ask you to trust me on this. If there was an easier way to figure out what you needed then I would be the first person to tell you. It's not like we make money by asking you to do a lot of unnecessary stuff. We only ask for what is required.

Thanks. Still tough to say what you have without it being removed. Based on what I see here, you have either our S351-18 or S390-15, depending on the depth of the bottom shoe. That's the only difference between them. I recommend measuring your shoe and referring to our dimensions to confirm the best match.
