Help with this part

I'm afraid I don't recognize this part. It looks to be a kind of track but that's all I can really surmise without more of a reference to work off of. 

Can you tell me what its function is? Where does it go? Can you also tell me if there's more to it, or is this all there is? Seeing it installed would also be a big help.
