How to open these windows from Alcan

Home Owner from Kitchener, Ontario
Hi, I am trying to figure out how these windows may open. I am able to open the bottom window, but i do not see an option to bring down the top window. Any suggestions? Is there a part missing? Many thanks.

I'm not sure what you mean. Based on your first picture, the top sash appears to be cracked open a little already. In your fourth picture, the top sash is open all the way. Where exactly are you running into issues?

I see in your third picture that a night lock is extended, which would prevent both sashes from opening too far since they'd bump into one another. Have you tried pushing that in?

Im sorry - my initial post was not clear enough. I can open the windows by sliding up or down. I am trying to determine how to open the top sash in order to clean it.

The bottom sash has the mechanism to pinch and lay open to clean (as seen in Picture #3). The top sash does not appear to have any such mechanism (Picture 4).

There is also nothing underneath - is there a way to bring down this top sash in order to clean it?

As a last resort, i can remove the screens but they are very old and i am afraid i will rip them.

Thanks again for responding.

Ah, I see. It's possible your top sash wasn't made to come out. Some windows are designed this way, I'm afraid. If there is no readily evident mechanism that would tilt it in, then that's probably the case for your window.

There may be tilt latches on top of the upper sash similar to the bottom sash.

Lower the upper sash and check the top for latches.

If they are there, raise the lower sash half way and tilt it down slowly and see it needs to be supported.

Then, bring the upper sash halfway and un-latch it and lower slowly.
