Legacy handle and mortise lock too hard to turn

A home owner from Olathe, Kansas says:
I purchased Legacy Keyed Handle Set, 82-073 and mortise lock round face, 82-218. When I assemble the hardware on my door the lock and handle lever function but they are very hard to turn. I'm afraid I will break the key applying the force necessary to turn it. Both the handle lever and mortise lever turn freely when not assembled. The mortise lock can be easily activated with a screw driver when it is installed in the door. My door is 1 3/8' thick. What is the problem and can it be corrected?

Hey, thanks for posting. It sounds like when you screw the handle together, the tail on the cylinder and the inside thumb turn are binding. You might just need to cut the tail on the key cylinder.
